Definition of Sprinkler Valve

Fire sprinkler heads feature heat-sensitive parts — either a glass bulb or a fusible link – that cause them to activate at a specific temperature. When a sprinkler head has a glass bulb, that bulb typically contains a glycerin-based liquid. Once the air around the sprinkler reaches a certain temperature — often 155F or 200F (68C or 93C) — the liquid expands, which causes the glass to break. The water held back by the bulb then escapes and flows toward the deflector, which disperses it throughout the room.

What are Advantages of Sprinkler Valve?

Reduce the Risk of Death
By having a fire sprinkler system installed along with traditional methods such as smoke alarms you’ll help to protect both your property and the people in it. Properties that use both fire alarms and suppression systems reduce the risk of fire related death by 82%.

Cost Effective Fire Protection System is a Great Benefit
Compared to the damage fires can cause, sprinklers are a cost effective way to protect both your physical property and the people living or working there. Most sprinkler systems cost a couple of percent of the overall property value. If you can afford a new kitchen, then you can afford to have a fire protection system fitted too.

Save Lives
Active sprinklers eliminate the possibly or people becoming trapped in a property, when a fire breaks out. Even without a clear fire exit, sprinklers can help to create a path, so people can escape safely. Using a combination of alarms, sprinklers and extinguishers is the best way to keep your building and the people in it safe in the event of a fire. Find out more about how fire sprinklers save lives.

Reducing the Risk of Damage to Your Property is a Benefit of Installing Fire Sprinklers
When the fire brigade sprays water into your property, it can cause extensive amounts of damage to both the visual appearance and to the structure of the property. Sprinklers installed in properties only use a minimum amount of water, meaning less damage will be caused when they go off compared to a fire engines hose.

Minimal Maintenance
Most types of sprinklers require very little maintenance and they typically continue running smoothly with only their annual maintenance check. Most installers also offer maintenance checks once or twice a year where they will test the value so see how the system is operating.

Reduced Insurance Costs
Fire Sprinkler Whether you’re a home or business owner, it’s likely you’ll be paying some type of insurance to protect your property in the event of damage. Claiming on these policies can be costly in the long run especially once you’ve claimed on them. Insurance premiums can be reduced by up to 15% when you have sprinklers installed in your property. That must be a benefit of installing fire sprinklers

Increase the Value of Your Property
Whilst there may be an upfront cost to pay out when you first have the system installed, it could be worth it when if you every sell your property. Properties using fire sprinklers are a much more attractive purchase for any type of buyer.

Types of Sprinkler Valve

Standard Spray Sprinklers
The standard spray sprinkler is installed in accordance with specific coverage area limitations and is available in pendent, upright, and sidewall configurations. Because the standard spray sprinkler is proven to be effective for a broad range of hazards and applications by adjusting the water discharge density, it is popular and, to a certain degree, serves as the benchmark for sprinkler measurement and performance.

Extended Coverage Sprinklers
As the title suggests, these sprinklers have a larger, or extended, coverage area when they discharge. This can help save material and labor costs because you do not need to install as many sprinklers. The trade-off is that they might require a water supply with a higher pressure to discharge at the higher flow rate necessary to cover the larger area they were designed for. Extended coverage sprinklers also come in several orientations and response types.

Old Type Sprinklers
Old style sprinklers are only permitted for special situations such as the protection of fur storage vaults. These sprinklers have a unique water distribution, where about half the water is directed upwards and half is directed down. This typically allows these sprinklers to be installed in either the pendent or upright position.

Applications of Sprinkler Valve
Fire Sprinkler Valve

Sprinkler Systems In Residential Homes

The most typical fire sprinkler system in homes would be the concealed sprinkler head. These fire sprinkler heads are concealed by a decorative cap which in turn, blends with its surroundings. Homeowners may be concerned about the inclusion of sprinklers in their homes due to the worry it will ruin their aesthetics. Or, they will attract too much attention from guests.
Instead, these hide the actual sprinkler head away from prying eyes. When looking for fire sprinkler heads, talk to your sprinkler installation company to discuss what type of colour you are wanting so that it matches your ceilings. The decorative caps may look as though the sprinkler heads cannot operate, however, they are made to fall away when they detect a temperature 20° below the activation point.
Other buildings that can benefit from concealed sprinkler heads include:
Care homes.
High-rise apartment complexes.

Sprinkler Valves

Commercial Businesses

Unlike residential homes, commercial businesses may want an overt sprinkler system to showcase to staff and customers that there are fire protection systems in place. Hence, pendant fire sprinkler heads. These hang from above-ceiling pipes and use a deflector to release the water into the surrounding areas.
Pendant fire sprinkler heads come in a wide variety since they are the most common. There are several changes in size, finish, and other aspects. There are also, in addition to the practical differences, in activation temperature, the volume of water produced, and spray size/pattern. Find out more about pendant sprinklers here.
Other industries that can benefit from concealed sprinkler heads include:
Education.
Medical.

Fire Sprinkler Valves

Buildings With Open Ceilings

Upright sprinkler heads are as their name would suggest, differing from the pendant and concealed heads that point downwards. These are ideal for buildings with high and open ceilings. In certain cases, they are installed to get around any design obstructions and to protect the systems from elements such as dust and ice.
For open ceilings, upright fire sprinkler heads are ideal. Uncovered or recessed upright sprinkler heads are obviously not an option, but they can be concealed by the sprinkler hose itself so they blend in with the surrounding ductwork, pipes, wiring, etc.
Examples of buildings that may have open ceilings include:
Modern restaurants.
Offices.
Warehouses.

Sprinkler Valves

Tight Spaces

In certain rooms, there isn’t enough space on the ceiling for a sprinkler system to be fitted. In these cases, sidewall heads should be considered. They are attached in smaller areas like hallways and closets; attached to the walls or to beams.
They can dispense water in a half-circle for improved coverage in such a small area thanks to their half-deflector. They are also perfect for spaces where other fire sprinkler systems are ineffective due to aesthetic issues or obstructions.
Examples of areas that may require sidewall heads include:
Hallways.
Rooms without ceiling piping.

Components of Sprinkler Valve

Sealing Assembly
Also known as the “plug,” the sealing assembly on a fire sprinkler head helps prevent water from seeping out and escaping.

Heat-Sensitive Element
All sprinkler heads have a heat-sensitive element that plays the primary role in activating the fire sprinkler system. In some sprinkler heads, a glass bulb is used, while in others, a fusible metal link is used.

Glass Bulbs
The glass bulbs used in some fire sprinkler heads act as a plug holding back the water in the system. The bulbs typically contain a glycerin-based liquid.
As the air around the sprinkler head reaches the target temperature – usually 155F or 200F – the glycerin-based liquid expands. Once the target temp is reached, the liquid expands enough to burst the glass bulb. With the bulb out of the way, water begins to escape from the sprinkler head, flowing toward the sprinkler head deflector.

Fusible Link
Sprinkler heads using a fusible link have metal filaments that are secured to the sprinkler with a heat-sensitive alloy. The alloy will melt as the temperature rises and, when the temperature reaches its target, it will melt away sufficiently to allow the metal filament to fall and activate the fire sprinkler, sending water towards the deflector.
Glass bulbs and fusible links can be designed to respond to different temperatures. Thus, the heat-sensitive element chosen for a sprinkler head will depend on the needs and environment of the facility it is protecting.

Deflectors
Sprinkler head deflectors are the metal plates that direct the flowing water in the direction it needs to go. When water is released from the sprinkler head at activation, the stream hits the deflector and sprays outward.
Deflectors do vary depending on the type of sprinkler head because each type of head needs to disperse water in different directions. The deflectors for each sprinkler head will be discussed in further detail below.

Frame
The frame is the metal casing that surrounds/holds the heat-sensitive element, sealing assembly, and deflector.

The Considerations for Buying
Sprinklers Design and Installation

Upright sprinklers have their deflector at the bottom, directing water upwards in a hemispherical pattern. They are installed on the ceiling, providing protection to the area below. Pendent sprinklers, on the other hand, have their deflector at the top, directing water downwards in a circular pattern. They are installed below the ceiling, offering coverage to the area directly beneath.

Coverage Area

Upright sprinkler is ideal for areas with obstructions on the ceiling, such as storage rooms or warehouses. It effectively navigates around structural elements. While Pendent sprinkler, with its wide coverage beneath the head, is well-suited for areas with relatively unobstructed ceilings, like offices or residential spaces.

Aesthetics

Upright sprinklers are more visible as they hang down from the ceiling. While they serve a critical purpose, some may find them less aesthetically pleasing. Pendent sprinklers, however, tend to blend in with the ceiling, making them a preferred choice in spaces where aesthetics are a consideration.

Freezing Conditions

In environments prone to freezing temperatures, upright sprinkler systems have an advantage. When the system is not activated, water drains out of the pipe, reducing the risk of freezing. Pendent sprinklers may be more susceptible to freezing since water can collect in the pipe.

Sprinklers System Maintenance and Accessibility

Upright sprinklers are generally easier to access for maintenance and inspection due to their lower placement on the ceiling. Pendent sprinklers may pose a slight challenge, particularly in spaces with high ceilings.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is an upright sprinkler head?

A: Upright fire sprinklers spray water upward to a concave deflector, producing a dome-shaped spray pattern. They install deflector-up to cover specific areas and to prevent ice and debris from collecting in the head. Upright sprinklers are installed where obstructions interfere with coverage in many system types and in dry-pipe systems facing freezing temperatures.
Upright fire sprinklers are often used in warehouses or industrial spaces, along with renovated open-ceiling structures such as modern office buildings and chic restaurants. For industrial, commercial, and storage spaces, most suitable upright sprinklers feature a 3/4″ (19.05 mm) thread connection with an 8.0 K-factor.
But while upright fire sprinklers are a mainstay of nearly all fire sprinkler manufacturers, not all upright fire sprinklers are identical.
Upright sprinklers installed on branch lines must be installed with the frame arms parallel to the branch piping unless the manufacturer prescribes a different orientation; this minimizes obstruction of the spray pattern.
While upright fire sprinklers can’t be recessed or hidden behind a cover plate, system design can make upright models less of an eyesore.

Q: What types can Sprinkler Valve be divided into according to the nozzle direction?

A: Pendent Sprinkler: A sprinkler designed to be installed in such a way that the water stream is directed downward against the deflector. Pendent sprinklers are very common but standard pendent sprinklers can’t be used with dry pipe systems because water can get trapped between the sprinkler and branch line piping causing ice to block the flow of water.

Upright Sprinkler: Upright sprinklers have a spray pattern that appears similar to that of a pendent sprinkler. The difference is that upright sprinklers are mounted to the top of branch lines or sprigs and installed in such a way that the water spray is directed upwards against the deflector. Upright sprinklers can be used in dry pipe systems because water can’t get trapped.

Sidewall Sprinkler: Sidewall sprinklers typically are installed along a wall and discharge water away from the wall into the room or space. Sidewall sprinklers can be mounted on the side, bottom, or top of a branch line, as specified in their listings. The discharge pattern resembles one-quarter of a sphere, with a small portion of the discharge directed at the wall behind the sprinkler.

Recessed Sprinkler: A sprinkler in which all or part of the body is mounted within a recessed housing. Some recessed sprinklers are meant to be partially recessed into a wall or ceiling while others are designed to be completely flush with the wall or ceiling. Only sprinklers designed and listed to be installed as a recessed sprinkler can be installed recessed.

Concealed Sprinkler: A recessed sprinkler with cover plate. The cover plate is typically soldered to the frame that screws or pushes into the sprinkler assembly. The solder is designed to melt at a lower temperature than the sprinkler activation temperature. When the solder melts, the cover plate falls off allowing the sprinkler head deflector to drop below the ceiling height and distribute water after the sprinkler activates.

Q: What types can Sprinkler Valve be divided into based on response type?

A: Sprinkler response types are determined by their Response Time Index (RTI). This is a method of measuring thermal sensitivity under standardized test conditions. In addition to sprinkler response time, sprinklers also can have different thermal elements that are designed to activate at varying temperatures.
Quick Response (QR) Sprinkler: A type of spray sprinkler that has a thermal element with an RTI of 50 (meter-seconds)1⁄2 or less and is listed as a quick-response sprinkler for its intended use. A quick-response sprinkler is similar to a standard response sprinkler, except that it possesses a fast-response operating element, so when exposed to the same temperature change, a quick response sprinkler will operate faster than a standard response sprinkler. QR sprinkler technology was developed from residential sprinkler technology. QR sprinklers are tested against the same criteria as standard-response sprinklers. The difference in the size of the operating elements of QR sprinklers and standard-response sprinklers should be noted. Where glass bulbs are used for standard spray sprinklers, the diameter of the bulb of a QR sprinkler is typically less than that of a standard-response sprinkler. Where a metallic alloy is used, the operating heat responsive element of a standard-response sprinkler has more mass than the element used in a QR sprinkler.
Standard Response Sprinkler: Sprinklers defined as standard response have a thermal element with an RTI of 80 (meters-seconds)1⁄2 or more.

Q: What types can Sprinkler Valve be divided into according to its purpose?

A:Residential Sprinkler: A type of fast-response sprinkler having a thermal element with an RTI of 50 (meters-seconds)1⁄2 or less that has been specifically investigated for its ability to enhance survivability in the room of fire origin and that is listed for use in the protection of dwelling units. Residential sprinklers are designed to prevent flashover, so the spray pattern throws water much higher. Residential sprinklers are required to pass wall wetting tests in addition to floor distribution.

Dry Sprinkler: Sometimes referred to as dry barrel sprinklers, dry sprinklers are used in areas where the sprinklers and piping are subject to near-freezing temperatures such as freezers or balconies. A dry sprinkler or dry barrel sprinkler is a sprinkler that is secured in an extension nipple that has a seal at the inlet end to prevent water from entering the nipple until the sprinkler operates. Dry sprinklers are used so a wet pipe system can serve an area that is subject to freezing by holding the water back in a space that can be maintained above freezing.

Open Sprinklers: Open sprinklers are used in deluge systems. They are not activated by individual thermal elements, instead the system water supply is held back by a deluge valve that is automatically opened (most often by activation of a heat detection system). This is meant to deliver a large amount of water over a specific area in a short amount of time. They are typically used for protection against high-hazard or rapidly spreading fires.

Institutional Sprinkler: Installing sprinklers in a correctional or institutional facility can be tricky since they need to be tamper-proof. Institutional sprinklers are specially designed to prevent people from attaching anything to it that could inflict harm on themselves or others. They are also made with components that cannot be easily converted into makeshift weapons.

Corrosion Resistant Sprinkler: A sprinkler fabricated with corrosion-resistant material, or with special coatings or platings, to be used in an atmosphere that would normally corrode sprinklers. Corrosion-resistant sprinklers are either covered with a decorative or corrosion-resistant coating or are designed for a specific function. Additional consideration of corrosion resistance should be given to any attached escutcheon. Stainless steel and aluminum escutcheons are often preferred over mild steel in harsh environments.

Q: What types of Sprinkler Valve are available in the warehouse?

A: Most sprinklers are designed to control a fire. This means that they apply water to a fire to prevent it from growing out of control. This is done in order to allow the occupants to evacuate the building and firefighters to arrive and fully extinguish the fire. There is only one type of sprinkler that is designed to fully extinguish a fire. When it comes to the sprinklers used in the protection of storage areas you will notice that the names of the sprinklers indicate whether they control the fire (control mode) or suppress the fire (early suppression).
Control Mode Density Area (CMDA): A type of spray sprinkler intended to provide fire control in storage applications using the density/area design criteria.
Control Mode Specific Application (CMSA) These are designed for applications such as storage occupancies. These designs, along with most other types of sprinklers, are intended to control the fire, not suppress it. CMSA sprinklers are a type of spray sprinkler that can produce characteristic large water droplets and that is listed for its capability to provide fire control of specific high-challenge fire hazards. This term is meant to incorporate a wide variety of sprinklers capable of fire control in high challenge fire scenarios. Note that CMSA Sprinklers are tested for use in specific storage configurations and need to be used in accordance with their listing. You might hear some people refer to CMSA sprinklers as large-drop sprinklers.
Early Suppression Fast Response (ESFR). Similar to CMSA sprinklers ESFR sprinklers are designed for storage occupancies. Although, ESFR sprinklers are designed for fire suppression rather than control. These are designed to protect rack storage without the need for in-rack sprinkler protection. The ESFR concept is to apply enough water to the burning fuel during the early phases of a fire and penetrate the developing fire plume, achieving suppression. ESFR sprinklers have a thermal element with an RTI of 50 (meters-seconds)1⁄2 or less and are listed for their capability to provide fire suppression of specific high-challenge fire hazards. Caution must be exercised to avoid confusing ESFR sprinklers with other types of sprinklers that are equipped with fast-response operating elements. A non-ESFR sprinkler with a fast-response element is not specifically designed to achieve fire suppression. The relationship among thermal sensitivity, actual delivered density, and required delivered density needs to be considered.
Intermediate Level Sprinkler: A sprinkler equipped with integral shields to protect its operating elements from the discharge of sprinklers installed at higher elevations. Intermediate Level Sprinklers are typically designed for use in rack storage sprinkler systems where their thermal elements need to be shielded from the water spray of sprinklers above. Other applications where one might find Intermediate Level Sprinklers include areas beneath open gridded catwalks.

Q: What Is The Difference Between Upright And Pendent Sprinklers?

A: Upright and pendant sprinklers are two types of fire sprinklers that are commonly used in buildings to protect against fires. While both types of sprinklers operate in a similar way, there are some significant differences between them. In this article, we will discuss the differences between upright and pendant sprinklers.

Upright Sprinklers
Upright sprinklers are mounted in an upright position and are typically used in areas where the ceiling is not accessible, such as in storage rooms and warehouses. They are also used in areas where the temperature may be higher, such as near ovens and furnaces. Upright sprinklers are designed with a deflective plate that directs the flow of water into a specific pattern, which spreads out in a circular shape. The water is then distributed over the surrounding area, effectively extinguishing the fire.
One of the advantages of using an upright sprinkler is that it is easy to install and can be installed in tight spaces. The sprinkler head is mounted on a pipe that is attached to a fitting, which is mounted onto a horizontal branch line on the ceiling. Upright sprinklers are also effective at extinguishing fires quickly, as they are activated by the heat of the fire and can release water directly onto the source of the fire.

Pendant Sprinklers
Pendant sprinklers are mounted on the ceiling in an upside-down position and are commonly used in areas where the ceiling is accessible, such as in offices, retail spaces, and other types of commercial buildings. They are designed to distribute water in a specific pattern, which is typically a large, circular shape. The water is then distributed over the surrounding area, effectively extinguishing the fire.
One of the advantages of using a pendant sprinkler is that it is less noticeable than an upright sprinkler and can blend in with the surrounding ceiling. Pendant sprinklers are also easy to install and can be mounted onto a drop or suspended ceiling. They are also effective at extinguishing fires quickly and can be activated by the heat of the fire.

There are several differences between upright and pendant sprinklers. The first difference is the mounting position. Upright sprinklers are mounted in an upright position, while pendant sprinklers are mounted on the ceiling in an upside-down position. The second difference is the application. Upright sprinklers are commonly used in areas where the ceiling is not accessible, while pendant sprinklers are commonly used in areas where the ceiling is accessible. The third difference is the water distribution pattern. Upright sprinklers distribute water in a circular pattern, while pendant sprinklers distribute water in a large, circular shape.
In conclusion, both upright and pendant sprinklers are effective at extinguishing fires and protecting against property damage. The selection between the two types of sprinklers is based on the application, mounting position, and water distribution pattern. It is important to have a professional fire protection company assess your building's fire protection needs and install the appropriate type of sprinkler system to protect against fire damage.

Q: How Do Fire Sprinkler Heads Work?

A: Nearly all fire sprinklers are composed of the same. Intricate components; a sealing plug that stops water from escaping, a heat-sensitive element that allows water to flow at a given temperature, a deflector that distributes water effectively, and a frame.
Sprinkler heads with a glass bulb typically contain a glycerin-based liquid. Once the air reaches temperatures of around 68C or 93C the liquid expands, causing the glass to break. This allows the water to escape and flow toward a deflector, which disperses the water throughout the room.
Sprinklers with a fusible link function using a heat-sensitive alloy. When the temperature rises high enough, the alloy will melt, allowing the elements to fall away, subsequently activating the sprinkler.
When combined with other fire suppression devices such as fire extinguishers, they provide sufficient protection against fires and smoke.

Q: What are the four common types of Sprinkler Valve?

A: Fire Sprinkler Pendants
The pendant fire sprinkler head is the most common type that you will see. Pendant sprinkler heads descend from the ceiling with a convex, circular, gapped deflector plate on the bottom.
When the sprinkler heads activate, they send a stream of water downward onto their deflectors, which then disperse the water widely, side to side, throughout the room in a conical pattern.
Because the pendants extend from the ceiling, they provide the greatest amount of coverage of the space. There are many variations of the pendant, and it can be very effective in protecting a variety of buildings and spaces, from industrial buildings to daycares.

Concealed Pendant
When a pendant sprinkler head is recessed into the ceiling and concealed by a decorative cap that blends in flush with the ceiling, this is called a concealed pendant head. For those who are concerned about fire sprinkler pendants messing with their aesthetic, concealed pendants are an excellent option.
While it may seem like the decorative caps would hinder the sprinkler heads from operating, they are designed to fall away from the sprinkler head when the temperature reaches 20 degrees below the sprinkler system activation temperature. The plate will no longer be in the way if and when the temperatures are high enough to activate the system.

Upright Sprinkler Heads
Upright sprinkler heads are pretty much what they sound like – sprinkler heads that point upward toward the ceiling with a circular, concave deflector plate on top (think umbrella).
Rather than descending through the ceiling, these sprinkler heads are usually mounted on pipes just below the ceiling. When activated, the water shoots up out of the pipe, hits the deflector, and is sent out and down in a dome-shaped pattern.
Upright sprinkler heads are efficient at dispersing water between obstructions. Thus, they are frequently used for rooms that are inaccessible, such as mechanical rooms, and in warehouses and industrial spaces. They are also often applied in structures with open ceilings.
An additional benefit to upright sprinkler heads is that since the deflector covers over the sprinkler head, it also protects it from debris and ice collecting.

Sidewall Sprinkler Heads
Sidewall sprinkler heads protrude horizontally out of the wall parallel to the floor, rather than descending from the ceiling or mounted on a pipe pointing upward. Sidewall sprinklers are ideal for small spaces, such as hallways, spaces with obstructions, and/or where ceiling piping is not available.
The sidewall sprinkler head has a solid, rectangular, or semi-circular deflector plate that helps to disperse the water away from the ceilings and down and out in a crescent-shaped spray, directly towards the open space it is protecting.

Q: Why install Fire sprinkler heads?

A: The risk of a fire in any structure is something serious to consider, but even more so when your entire business and livelihood is on the line. Firefighters can only do so much after a blaze has already been ignited, which is why it’s so important to have some form of fire protection service already installed.
Sprinklers Save Lives
The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has no record of more than two deaths in a fire when the building had a functional sprinkler system in place. These fire protection services save lives and can help those evacuating get out of the building safely.
Reduces Risk of Damage
A sprinkler system can not only save lives, it can reduce damage to your property if functioning properly. Keep in mind that approximately 44% of system failures were due to a lack of maintenance, so even though a sprinkler system exists in your building, it doesn’t mean you can ignore maintenance necessities.
Economics
For the amount of protection, you’ll be getting and money you’ll be saving in the event of a fire, sprinkler systems are very cost efficient. These systems are affordable, quick to install, and provide peace of mind by fostering a safe work environment.
Reduce Insurance Premiums
Some business owners, in an effort to save a little money, won’t invest in the best fire sprinkler system. However, investing in a sprinkler system can actually save money on insurance premiums in the long run, not to mention protect a business from serious fire damage.
Low Maintenance
Once installed, fire sprinkler systems are actually relatively low maintenance. They only require inspections on an annual basis to determine their functionality, but other than that they can last upwards of 20 years without any major repairs or upgrades needed.

Q: Why are sprinkler heads important?

A: Fire sprinkler systems are a crucial part of fire suppression and fire safety. They allow for water or mist to be dispersed if a fire breaks out in a building. This is even more important in commercial buildings due to the number of people who occupy these buildings on a daily basis.

Q: What is the use of fire sprinkler head?

A: Of course, the main purpose of a fire sprinkler head is to effectively disperse water in the case of a structure fire. That said, the architecture & interiors of buildings affect the functionality of fire sprinkler heads, as well as the aesthetic.

Q: What are the differences between Fire sprinkler heads?

A: Among all types of fire sprinkler heads, there can be differences depending on the situation. Most often these differences exist to meet the fire protection needs of different buildings, industries, and situations - but aesthetic choices also exist.
Temperature sensitivity
one of the most critical differences. Any type of sprinkler head can be set to a different heat sensitivity (and therefore when it will trigger) by adjusting the activator, either a liquid filled glass tube or fusible metal link.
Finish
corrosion-resistance is a common finish that may not be necessary for all fire sprinkler systems. Chemical coatings are used, as well as simple solutions like wax applications. Different aesthetic finishes also exist to maintain the look of your building.
Response time
quick response fire sprinklers utilize the same temperature sensitive activator, but in a thinner glass bulb. This means the fire sprinkler is ‘set’ to a temperature, but reacts more quickly when that temperature is reached. Commonly used in high-occupancy structures to better protect people, where even a few seconds make a difference.
Production & Aesthetics
new advancements in fire sprinkler look & feel are being made constantly to provide the same protection & safety in a more attractive or discreet package. Die-cast (as opposed to sand-cast) sprinklers have a more polished look, and slimmer/smaller sprinkler heads are available - with a large variety of covers & housings.

Q: What Are The Ratings And Color Coding For Fire Sprinkler Heads?

A: Fire sprinkler heads are rated and color-coded. Each color represents the temperature at which the glass bulb explodes to activate the water flow. Therefore, the sprinkler heads have different classes of glass bulb color. Each class has its own maximum ceiling temperature setting and activation temperature.
For instance, ordinary sprinkler heads have a red or orange bulb. Intermediate sprinklers have a yellow or green color. High-temperature sprinkler head bulbs are colored in blue, followed by purple and black as the temperature increases.

Q: How do you know if your fire sprinkler needs replacing?

A: Sprinkler heads do not last forever. They need to be replaced to ensure they work properly. Fire sprinkler heads need replacement when they are heavily loaded with contaminants such as dust, if they’re damaged and leaking, fail a plunge test, are too old and worn out, or if they’re painted by someone else other than the manufacturer because the paint can cause blockage.

Q: How Much Water Does A Fire Sprinkler Head Require?

A: Even though it typically takes 5 sprinkler heads or less to extinguish the vast majority of fires, each system must be carefully designed. An integral part of that design is the water supply for the system itself. In a small percentage some of cases the water supply is provided by a rooftop water tank. But in the cast majority of cases the water supply is form a water service line connected tot he public main in the roadway. It can either be a dedicated for service main, or a combined main. A combined water service line also provides water for your potable water use.
Regardless of the type of water supply, or type of service line, the supply has to be carefully designed by a design professional.
